The phrase means, “Come and get it”, this is the phrase that Leonidas said to the Persian king Xerxis when he was told to hand over his weapons. The phrase has become a slogan of defiance all over the world. Shortly After the battle the ancient memorial was placed just across the highway from the modern memorial. It is a small carved stone plaque that says, “Stranger, tell the Spartans that we lay here obedient to their laws”. This ancient memorial is on the small hill across the national road from the modern one, After visiting we will drive back to Athens.

The symbol of culture, architecture and science is the absolute must see. Drive along the historical paths that bring you to Plaka, the Ancient Agora, Thiseio, the Temple of Hephaestus, the temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrian’s Arch.

After lunch, Athens taxi tour will drive you to Marathon, where the Athenians fought the Persians in a very decisive battle, and every year the whole world joins the Greek runners to run the Marathon race to commemorate the Athenian victory over the Persians. The official distance of the race is 42,195 kilometers (26 miles 385 yards). The event is named after the fabled run of the Greek soldier Pheidippides, a messenger from the Battle of Marathon to Athens. The historical accuracy of this legend is in doubt, contradicted by accounts given by Herodotus, in particular. The Marathon was one of the original modern Olympic events in 1896, though the distance did not become standardized until 1921. More than 800 marathons are contested throughout the world each year, with the vast majority of competitors being recreational athletes. Larger marathons can have tens of thousands of participants. The Battle of Marathon during the Greco-Persian Wars took place in 490 BC and was the culmination of the first attempt by the Achaemenid Empire of Persia, under King Darius I, to subjugate Greece.
